Farm Venture is the first insurance agency in Kenya dedicated to risks of the farm. The agency specialises in placing of risks associated with the farm enterprise, most of which are beyond the farmers’  control. These are largely weather risks.

Farming is a highly specialized enterprise. Be it crop or livestock production, farming requires skills and experience to return a profit. This is inspite of the many uncontrolled risks that the farm enterprise face. A number of production risks cannot be controlled. Weather is the largest production risk to a farm enterprise. While a farmer would plant on time, production is not guaranteed unless the weather is right. The past decade has seen an increase in erratic weather, causing huge losses to farmers across the country. Droughts, Excessive Rainfall, Hail, Frost, Uncotrollable Pests and Diseases are the main perils protectable by insurance.

To produce a good crop, medium and largescale farmers invest in expensive machinery, largely tractors, implements ,combine harvesters and tracks. These equipment require insurance. Accidents, Fire , machinery breakdown and theft protection are relevant insurance  for farm machinery.

A farmer will have other assets than need insurance protection; the farm house, machinery park, vehicles, silos amongst others.

The farmer has workers too. The workers will need legal protection for accidents at work, or from negligence by employers. The farmer can buy his workers medical insurance too.
